Pistons To Pursue Jerami Grant Reunion In Free Agency
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Pistons are interested in reuniting with Jerami Grant this summer, according to NBA insider James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.

Edwards III, who covers the Pistons, talked about Detroit and Grant with Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

“For Detroit, arguably the biggest unrestricted name is Jerami Grant, who was a Piston a year ago,” Edwards III said. “He’s got a great relationship with Troy Weaver and loves the city of Detroit. I believe they’ll have an idea if they can get him right now as we speak.

“I know that they went into the offseason with the anticipation of trying to get him. Whether or not that happens is up to Jerami. I think Portland should rebuild, but it doesn’t seem like they will. I guess there’s maybe a chance they have a change of heart and tear it down, and Portland is no longer interested. I’d be surprised if that happened. I think Detroit targets Jerami and at least throws an offer sheet at Cam Johnson and goes after the two biggest 3-and-D wings available. I think Brooklyn would probably match whatever realistic offer they get.”

Grant played 101 games for the Pistons. He averaged 20.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists. The swingman, who was traded by Detroit to the Portland Trail Blazers last summer, become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Both the Pistons and Blazers missed the playoffs this season. It will be interesting to see what team Grant is playing for next season. He has career averages of 12.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists with the Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Pistons and Blazers.

Grant put up 20.5 points, 4.5 boards and 2.4 assists per game in 2022-23 with Portland. He shot 47.5% from the field, 40.1% from beyond the arc and 81.3% from the free-throw line in 63 games.
