Atlanta Falcons Could Make Surprising Move At Quarterback
Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons have secured a promising new franchise quarterback, though they’re mindful that his tenure with the team might be short-lived.

Kirk Cousins, their current quarterback, faces age-related concerns, compounded by a recent significant injury that could potentially delay his return to the field. Given these uncertainties, the Falcons are exploring all possibilities for their future quarterback needs.

Recent speculation suggests that the Falcons could target Michael Penix Jr. as their future signal-caller.

Evan Cohen of UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio raised the question to NFL insider Adam Schefter about the Falcons’ chances of drafting Penix with the No. 8 pick.

Schefter acknowledged Penix’s appeal as a potential candidate for the Falcons but expressed doubt about selecting him so early in the draft.

While the Falcons have shown interest in Penix and appreciate his talent, Schefter suggested they may opt to trade down in the draft to secure him rather than reaching for him at No. 8.

Michael Penix Jr. stands out as one of the top quarterback prospects in his class, with some experts touting him as possessing the strongest arm. However, concerns linger regarding his durability due to past injuries during his college career.

Despite these worries, Penix enjoyed a healthy 2023 season, showcasing his exceptional skills and delivering one of the most remarkable performances in recent college football history.

The Falcons boast a roster brimming with young talent, positioning them well for sustained competitiveness in the years ahead. Penix would seamlessly integrate into their long-term plans, aligning with their timeline for success.

Additionally, with an established starter already in place, the Atlanta Falcons can afford to take a calculated risk on Penix, potentially securing their quarterback of the future.
