Bengals exec: Geno Atkins' future with team 'a fluid situation'

Geno Atkins has spent his entire 11-year career with the Cincinnati Bengals. However, his future with the franchise is uncertain.

Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin wouldn't commit to the defensive tackle on Monday, saying his situation in Cincinnati is "fluid" and the team will see if they can keep him around.

"We'll see as we go," Tobin said, according to Pro Football Talk. "We'll see what, if any, of the room we need to do some other things. We'll see. It's a fluid situation. I don't have any updates on it right now. I know we've got high regard and hold him in high esteem. He's been a Bengal his whole career and we'll see if we can keep that going."

Atkins has two seasons left on the extension he signed with the Bengals in 2018. The 32-year-old played in just eight games last season due to a shoulder injury and is a candidate to be cut. Per Over The Cap, Cincinnati will save $9.5 million if they cut Atkins.

Atkins did play every game in 2019, registering 4.5 sacks, 47 tackles and 10 quarterback hits. He has played 161 games for the Bengals and is an eight-time Pro Bowler.

If he's released, it's unclear which teams might show interest in the Georgia product.
