Bills LB Andre Smith suspended six games for PED violation

On Wednesday, the NFL suspended Buffalo Bills linebacker Andre Smith for the first six games of the 2022 season for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.

Last season, Smith played 15 games for Buffalo, notching ten tackles and a fumble recovery.

Smith's presence will be missed on the Bills' special teams units. The 25-year-old played 68 percent of Buffalo's special teams snaps last season and 62 percent in 2020.

The Carolina Panthers drafted Smith in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft out of North Carolina. Smith played three seasons as a Tarheel, finishing sixth in the ACC in tackles (113) in 2016.

Smith played two seasons with the Panthers, compiling eight tackles in 19 games. Ahead of the 2020 season, Carolina traded Smith to Buffalo for a 2023 conditional seventh-round pick.

Over the last two seasons, Smith has 19 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in 27 games with the Bills.

Smith is in the final year of a two-year, $2.4 million contract signed with the Bills ahead of the 2021 season.
