Bills sign WR Tavon Austin to one-year contract

The Buffalo Bills added a former top-10 draft pick with nine years of NFL experience to their wide receiver room on Friday.

After a career at West Viriginia, Austin was selected eighth overall by the then-St. Louis Rams in 2013. He posted a career-high 1,247 all-purpose yards as a rookie, including 418 as a receiver and 398 on kick returns. Austin also posted six all-purpose touchdowns despite playing in only 13 games.

Austin had a career-best 391 punt return yards on 35 returns and had 876 all-purpose yards in 2014 before recording back-to-back campaigns of at least 1,000 all-purpose yards in 2015 and 2016. He led the NFL in punt returns in 2016 with 44 and had his best season as a wide receiver that year as well, with career highs in receptions (58) and receiving yards (509).

Following five seasons with the Rams, Austin was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in April 2018 in exchange for a sixth-round pick and after two years with Dallas, the 32-year-old played in four games with the Green Bay Packers in 2020. Austin suited up in 13 contests for the Jacksonville Jaguars last year, doing most of his work as a wideout with 24 receptions for 213 yards and one touchdown on 37 targets.
