Chargers Injury News: Bolts Star Linebacker Offers Promising Surgery Update
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers lost their 2021 fourth-round pick, edge rusher Chris Rumph, to a foot injury he suffered before Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.

Rumph will miss the rest of the season, was placed on the injury reserve, and required surgery on the foot. The edge rusher appeared to have the surgery and posted an encouraging update following the surgery.

The edge rusher from Duke is set to return for the 2024 season. This is a big blow to the Chargers' depth, as the defense as a whole is already a struggling one, so others will need to step up.

In six games this season, Rumph has been quiet. He only recorded one fumble recovery, four solo tackles, one assist tackle, zero tackles for loss, and zero QB hits.

The Chargers wasted no time finding a replacement for Rumph as they signed former Super Bowl-winning edge rusher Justin Hollins. Hollins was a part of the Los Angeles Rams 2021 Super Bowl team and bounced around from the Packers to the New York Giants practice squad before signing with LA.

He should bring some experience and depth to the LA defense, and we'll see what kind of a role he will play for the Bolts. Nonetheless, it's great to see Rumph in good sports following the surgery, and we hope he kills it during rehab.
