Chiefs guard played through major injury in Super Bowl win

Kansas City Chiefs guard Nick Allegretti had to step into the team's starting lineup for Super Bowl LVIII due to an injury to Joe Thuney. It was a big opportunity for him, and there was probably nothing that was going to get him off the field — including a big injury of his own.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Tuesday, Allegretti suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in the second quarter of the team's 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Allegretti remained in the game to play all of it, while an MRI this week confirmed the initial diagnosis from the game.

That brought him some major props from Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes.

The 27-year-old Allegretti has been a member of the Chiefs since the start of the 2019 season, winning three Super Bowl titles with the team.

He has appeared in 74 regular season games during that stretch, starting 17 of them. That includes one start during the 2023 season. Add all of that to his contributions to the latest Chiefs championship and it has been a pretty successful career to this point for the 2019 seventh-round draft pick (No. 216 overall).

He is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
