Colts QB Matt Ryan: 'I think we're close, I really do'

Thus far, the Indianapolis Colts electing to replace Carson Wentz with 2016 NFL Most Valuable Player Matt Ryan has not gone as planned.

Ryan has left plenty to be desired with his overall play, and the Colts are at 1-2-1 heading into the upcoming "Thursday Night Football" game at the 2-2 Denver Broncos. Despite the struggles of many involved, Ryan insisted on Tuesday the Colts could right the ship as soon as this week.

"I think we’re close, I really do," the 37-year-old explained, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "I continue to go back, the good has been good, it just needs to show up more consistently. But I do think we’re close. When you watch the film, it’s the little things, and I’ve said it, everybody’s taken their turn in that, and that’s the one thing, in this league, you don’t know when it’s gonna be the one play that impacts the game. Each play we’ve gotta lock in, one snap at a time. I do think it’s closer than it is far."

Simmons notes that Ryan took "a sack on a career-high 8.9 percent of his dropbacks" and also "fumbled nine times with three lost" across the first four games of his Indianapolis tenure. Meanwhile, ESPN stats show that Ryan is 19th among eligible quarterbacks with an 85.0 passer rating and 23rd with a 41.3 total QBR this season. He's fourth with 1,125 passing yards but has matched just five touchdowns with five interceptions.
