Commanders interested in Giants QB Daniel Jones this offseason?

Washington hasn't had a quarterback start an entire season since 2016, when Kirk Cousins, now with the Minnesota Vikings, did it for a third consecutive year. 

The Commanders have tried Taylor Heinicke and Carson Wentz at quarterback this season, with less than promising results. Heinicke, an undrafted 29-year-old who will be an unrestricted free agent at season's end, had his moments but was eventually benched in favor of Wentz last week. Meanwhile, Wentz has failed to grab the starting job in his first season with Washington, going 2-4 in six starts. The Commanders can opt out of Wentz's deal this offseason or pay the former No. 2 overall pick $20 million in 2023. So, if Wentz is back with the Commanders next season, it'll likely be on a restructured contract. 

Jones may not be the sexiest option, especially with Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders seemingly falling out. But Jones has made vast improvements this season, so much so that the Giants may have some regret about declining his fifth-year option back in April. 

Last week against the Minnesota Vikings, Jones looked the part of a franchise quarterback, even in a loss. Matching up against one of the NFC's best, Jones finished 30-of-42 for 334 yards, with a touchdown and an interception. 

Heading into Week 17, Jones has the Giants on the doorstep of a playoff berth, leading New York to an 8-6-1 mark. The fourth-year pro has thrown for 3,028 yards, with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions, averaging career-highs in completion percentage (66.5), interception percentage (1.1), yards gained per attempt (6.8), and quarterback rating (90.7). 

Jones has done all of this without a ton of weapons. Through 16 weeks, the Giants' receptions leader is running back Saquon Barkley, with 55.
