Jonathan Allen questionable for Week 2 with groin injury

The Washington Commanders have added defensive tackle Jonathan Allen to their injury report and listed him as questionable for Sunday’s game at the Detroit Lions. Allen suffered a groin injury late in Washington’s win last week over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Allen had an MRI on Monday and stated he was “fine” before the week’s practice. However, he was limited during the Wednesday and Thursday practices before being a full-go Friday.

Allen joins safety Kamren Curl and offensive guard Wes Schweitzer as being questionable for Sunday.

The Commanders have elevated defensive tackle Benning Potoa'e and offensive guard West Martin from the practice squad. Could Potoa'e’s elevation indicate how serious Allen may be about missing  Sunday’s game?

Allen’s injury comes on the heel of rookie defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis getting placed on injured reserve with a season-ending meniscus tear.

Daron Payne, Daniel Wise and Donovan Jeter, whom the team signed earlier this week, are the Commanders’ other options at defensive tackle.
