The Dallas Cowboys have had a successful offseason up to this point, at least from a roster acquisition perspective when compared to years past.

They filled two big needs at wide receiver and cornerback with the trades for Brandon Cooks and Stephon Gilmore, respectively. At the same time, they have re-signed integral pieces in safety Donovan Wilson and linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.

But could they bring back another veteran piece to their defense in cornerback Anthony Brown?

This is interesting to think about after the Gilmore trade has given them a veteran to pair with young cornerback Trevon Diggs on the outside. This has obviously nudged Brown to the back burner after his contract expired this past season. Or, more accurately ...

Brown's injury nudged him to the back burner.

Brown, the seventh-year cornerback, is seen by the Cowboys as a "ballsy'' player - him trying to continue to play in 2020 despite a punctured lung is a perfect example of that - and proved to be solid for the Cowboys as the opposite of Diggs. But after starting nine games this past season before an injury sidelined him for year, Dallas saw a most glaring need at cornerback.

Brown’s injury sent the Cowboys to the revolving door of corners being signed to the practice squad and then promoted to the 53-man roster as they tried to find a patch for the hole.

And now? Depending on his rehab progress, "AB'' brings a host of positives to the table.

As he told our Mike Fisher a while back, "My mindset is to make everybody better around me and do my job at the same time."

Brown could still do that.

He already knows the system in Dallas that defensive coordinator Dan Quinn wants to run. He's a capable starter who wouldn't be asked to be that high on the depth chart this time around. And maybe most of all ... Anthony Brown, fighting through injuries and classily keeping his nose to the grindstone, is "ballsy.''
