Dan Campbell lauds new Lions coach: 'Best d-line coach in the league'

The Detroit Lions searched this offseason for ways to take their success to the next level, and improving the coaching staff ended up being one of them.

The Lions recently hired Terrell Williams as defensive line coach and run-game coordinator. Williams had previously spent six years with the Titans. It's an under-the-radar and move Lions head coach Dan Campbell thinks it could be a game-changer as Detroit aims to make a Super Bowl for the first time in 2024.

"I think he's the best d-line coach in the league," Campbell boasted recently at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, via Tim Twentyman of the team's website.

"I think he knows how to develop, he's got experience in game-planning and he's gonna be beneficial for our guys up front," he added.

The 49-year-old Williams will coach his 27th season of football in 2024 and his 13th in the NFL. His familiarity with Campbell and Lions general manager Brad Holmes may have helped seal the deal. Williams coached with Campbell with the Miami Dolphins and with Holmes at North Carolina A&T in the 1990s.

With Williams on board, the Lions have a coaching staff that could be the envy of the NFC North.

“I trust Dan, and I trust Brad, and they trust me,” Williams told beat writers at the combine this week, according to MLive.com

"Dan and I have talked for years about having an opportunity to work together, and when this opportunity came, it was an easy decision for me."
