Eagles Rookie Sydney Brown Suffers Season-Ending Injury

What was already an aggravating end of the regular season for the Philadelphia Eagles became worse as rookie safety Sydney Brown was believed to have suffered a torn ACL in a loss to the New York Giants, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. He'll undergo further testing on Monday to confirm.

Brown could be seen throwing his helmet off in the first quarter as the training staff came out onto the field to evaluate him. He had to be helped off of the field and to the locker room as he could not put any weight on his leg.

Immediately after Brown went into the locker room, the team announced that he would be ruled out for the rest of the game.

The injury occurred at MetLife Stadium, a turf field that is infamous for causing bad injuries and tears. Later in the first half, A.J. Brown also went down with a concerning knee injury but was able to walk to the locker room under his own power. The extent of the star wide receiver's injury is unclear at the moment, but he was listed as questionable to return before being ruled out at halftime.

The rookie safety was having a solid end to the season, which included a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals last week, the first pick of his career. This year, he recorded 45 tackles, three passes defended, one forced fumble, one interception and one tackle for loss.

Philadelphia will be hitting the road for Wild Card Weekend to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at a date and time to be announced, but it will have to be without the rookie Brown's help.
