ESPN Suggests Wild Trade Involving Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence
Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars are gearing up for what they hope will be a significant leap in the upcoming season. However, ESPN has put forth a radical idea that could shake things up in a big way.

The NFL Draft is renowned for its unpredictability, often featuring surprising picks, trades, and plenty of speculation.

Amidst this uncertainty, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell has introduced a trade-only mock draft, leading to some eyebrow-raising scenarios.

One such proposal suggests the Jaguars parting ways with quarterback Trevor Lawrence, along with the No. 48 and No. 153 picks, in exchange for the coveted No. 1 pick, potentially selecting Caleb Williams.

“Yes, I recognize this is an absurd trade. If we’re trying to find reasonably fair value for both sides, though? This makes at least a little bit of sense, and it’s a deal in which both sides could win.”

In the 2023 season, Lawrence showcased promise, completing 65.6% of his passes for 4,016 yards, tallying 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, alongside seven lost fumbles. However, his journey was marred by injuries, forcing him to miss his first career start and battle through multiple ailments.

Throughout the season, Lawrence struggled with a knee injury in Week 6, an ankle injury in Week 13, a concussion in Week 15, and a shoulder injury in Week 16, impacting his performance and practice time.

The accumulation of injuries coincided with a challenging stretch for the Jaguars, resulting in a 1-5 record and playoff absence. Notably, Lawrence’s absence from his first start coincided with the team’s lone victory during this period.

Additionally, his performance following each injury saw fluctuations, with some of his lowest-rated games occurring post-injury.

Despite the adversity faced in his NFL journey thus far, the Jaguars maintain faith in Trevor Lawrence’s potential to blossom into the superstar he’s expected to be.
