“And Robinson comes down with it!” That was the call that Joe Tessitore made in Beaver Stadium the night Penn State football pulled off the upset over No. 18 Michigan back in 2013. Just one of the many highlights that Allen Robinson had during his incredible college career. That play, among others, helped Robinson start his long NFL career strong. However, over the past few seasons, his production has decreased, and now his most recent team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, has decided to cut Robinson to clear cap space.

Former Penn State football All-American WR cut from NFL team

Allen Robinson signed a three-year $46.5 million in 2022 with the Los Angeles Rams. Then, ahead of the 2023 season, the Rams traded Robinson to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a swap of 2023 seventh-round draft picks.

On Friday, Robinson was released by the Steelers, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. The former Penn State wide receiver will now hit free agency and look for his fourth team in the past four years.

The production dropoff

Allen Robinson decided to forgo his senior season at Penn State and was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He broke out his second year in the NFL hauling in a career-high 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2015. He was a consistent player in the NFL until 2021, when his production started to trail off.

During the 2021 season, Robinson was with the Chicago Bears, where he secured 38 catches for 410 yards and one touchdown. Then, in 2022 with the Rams, production took another step back with 33 catches for 339 yards and three touchdowns. In 2023 with the Steelers, Robinson had 34 catches for 280 yards and no touchdowns.

In his NFL career Robinson has 562 catches for 7,028 yards and 43 touchdowns. Now, the 30-year-old wide receiver needs to find a team that he can revive his career in 2024 to prove that he can still produce at the highest level.
