Former RB Brandon Jacobs says teams have shown interest as he attempts NFL return as defensive end

Former New York Giants star running back and Super Bowl champion Brandon Jacobs is set to turn 39 in July. He has not stepped foot on an NFL field since he was a member of the Giants back in 2013.

Despite this, the former star running back is looking to make a comeback as a defensive end. Yeah, this is a thing that could happen in 2021.

According to Jacobs himself, three teams have shown interest in him at defensive end.

“I don’t want to throw names out there just yet because I was told not to, but it’ll be a shock. If I don’t get an opportunity, it’s fine. I’m currently coaching high school football and running a youth program, which I’m perfectly content with doing the rest of my life,” Brandon Jacobs said, via HoumaToday.com.

Jacobs said he currently stands at 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds. That’s nearly the same exact frame as top-end NFL edge rushers Nick Bosa and Myles Garrett.

Having played nine seasons in the NFL while amassing 5,837 total yards and 64 touchdowns, Jacobs does have the experience to give it a go.

If Tim Tebow, why not Brandon Jacobs?

This is one of the factors that led to Jacobs considering a return to the NFL after an eight-year hiatus. Tim Tebow just recently converted from quarterback to tight end and is currently on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ roster. Clearly, Jacobs has had more success in the NFL than his Heisman-winning counterpart.

“Well, since Tebow came back after being off a good bit, I am announcing today that I, too, will come back. I will play defensive end for whatever team gives me a chance,” Jacobs tweeted back in May. “I am really serious about coming back as a defensive end. I can still run, I am strong and there’s no way Tim Tebow is a better athlete than I am. I just need a shot, that’s it! If I can’t cut it I’ll take it like a man. Just give me one chance that’s all!”

It’s not yet known which teams have shown interest in Jacobs. But it could be something worth watching with training camps getting going in about a month. It would be great to see him succeed.
