Former Titans Star on Callahan Coaching Levis: 'A Match Made in Heaven'
George Walker IV / Tennessean.com / USA TODAY NETWORK

Taylor Lewan, the star tackle who was a first-hand witness to the Tennessee Titans' run-dominant attack of the past decade, foresees exciting offensive football under new coach Brian Callahan.

In particular, Lewan looks forward to the development of second-year quarterback Will Levis under the tutelage of Callahan, who has worked successfully with Joe Burrow and Hall of Famer Peyton Manning among others.

"I think (Brian Callahan) is a good hire. It’s a really good hire. And it bums me out because I really love (Mike) Vrabel so much," Lewan said Thursday on the Up&Adams podcast.

"You saw what (Callahan) did with the Bengals, with Joe Burrow? The NFL in the last decade or so has been this pass-heavy, open ‘em up, kinda getting more toward the spread, not running so much, and Nashville’s been behind.

"We’ve been in the Derrick Henry era, running 30 times a game type of thing. Now it’s gonna be open up, it’s gonna be put points on the board for Tennessee. It’s gonna be an exciting offense this year.

"(Will Levis) has the capability of being a stud and now it’s about protecting him and making sure you can give him pieces to get the ball out of his hands fast. And I think that’s what Callahan’s gonna do. I think that’s why he was brought in.

"When they went through the interview process, I guarantee that was one of the main points for them. How do we get it so we have this young quarterback and we develop him as much as possible? This is gonna be a match made in heaven and I think it’s gonna be a very successful time for the Tennessee Titans."

As a postscript, Lewan sees wide receiver Tee Higgins, whom Callahan coached in Cincinnati, joining DeAndre Hopkins to terrify defensive secondaries. "Is it Tee Higgins? Is he a free agent? I think he finds his way down to Nashville as well."

Higgins, 25, is 6 feet 4 and 219 pounds. He has been a perennial 1,000-yard receiver while being the second choice to Ja'Maar Chase. Higgins also is a Tennessee native.
