Free Agent RB Ezekiel Elliott Travels to Pittsburgh to Support Ryan Shazier
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Ezekiel Elliott was spotted in Pittsburgh over the weekend, even at Acrisure Stadium, but there was a twist to the reason as to why the former Dallas Cowboys running back was in Pittsburgh.

Elliott is currently a free agent after he was released by the Cowboys and he has never played another down for any other team than Dallas. So, when he popped up at Hyde Park Steakhouse on the North Shore in his Instagram story, there were some questions that were floated around.

Ezekiel Elliott would later be seen at Acrisure Stadium. He was in town for Ryan Shazier’s charity event that would be held at Acrisure Stadium yearly. Elliott even attended last year. Shazier and Elliott played together while at Ohio State in college, and the friends still are close to one another.

The charity event was ‘The Run for Black and Gold’ event that Shazier hosted on Saturday. Other players such as Kenny Pickett, Joey Porter, and Cam Heyward came out for the event. Former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer joined the festivities as well on the North Shore.

The event, which is held for Shazier’s fund for spinal rehabilitation, was peppered with live events across the evening to fundraise for the fund. There were twelve celebrity jockeys that would have the opportunity to compete in the race throughout the night.

Shazier suffered a career-ending spinal injury in Cincinnati after lowering his head into a tackle. After the injury, he courageously documented his journey throughout his process, eventually walking again and regaining most function after the scare. Now, Shazier raises awareness and funds to help those like him.

Obviously, this means nothing in regard to Elliott and the Steelers as a result. Not only would the fit be weird, but the team does not need an Elliott-like running back in the room with Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren manning the room at the top. They will let the bottom of that depth chart play itself out to find their third running back after letting Benny Snell walk.
