Giants' Daniel Jones tries to explain tripping on 80-yard run

Daniel Jones became the subject of many internet memes on Thursday night after tripping on an impressive 80-yard run against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The New York Giants quarterback was at a loss for words when trying to explain what happened on the play.

With 8:51 remaining in the third quarter, it appeared Jones was going to rush into the end zone with a free pass. He eventually started to stumble around the 30-yard line and tripped on his own two feet, falling near the Eagles' eight-yard line.

Luckily for Jones, the Giants still scored a touchdown on the drive thanks to Wayne Gallman. Despite that, however, Jones was still couldn't believe that he tripped over thin air, and he had difficulty explaining what happened.

It's hard to criticize Jones for tripping since we don't often see quarterbacks run nearly the length of the football field in today's game. The 23-year-old was clocked at 21.23 mph during the run, which is the fastest top speed by any quarterback since 2018. The 80-yard dash also was the longest run by a quarterback since Marcus Mariota's 87-yard sprint in 2015.

After Gallman's touchdown, Jones led the Giants on a 97-yard drive that put Big Blue up 21-10 with around six minutes left in the game. Carson Wentz and the Eagles then rallied back to score 12 unanswered points to win the game 22-21.

Jones finished the night with 187 yards passing, two touchdowns, two turnovers and 92 yards on the ground.
