Giants reportedly open to trading one 2022 first-round pick for 2023 first-rounder

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen took the job in January with the unannounced goal in mind to rebuild the franchise from the ground up. Schoen may not openly admit it, but he's seemingly far more focused on winning games down the road than he is with the record the 2022 roster posts by January.

As things currently stand, the Giants hold picks No. 5 and No. 7 overall in the upcoming NFL Draft that gets underway April 28 and could use those selections on any position, even quarterback, as Schoen and company continue to evaluate 2019 first-round selection Daniel Jones.

However, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano explained Thursday that Big Blue has "signaled" to other clubs that either of its first-round picks is up for sale "for a package that includes a first-rounder in 2023."

Vacchiano adds the Giants could essentially punt one of those choices to next year because they're "only about $3 million under the $208.2 million cap" at a time when they're reportedly considering taking a financial hit to trade one-time Pro Bowl cornerback James Bradberry to a would-be buyer for "a mid-round draft pick." It also seems likely the Giants will at least consider trading big-name running back Saquon Barkley and, more importantly, the $7.217 million he's owed for the final season of his contract.

All signs point to the Giants letting May 2 come and go without them picking up the fifth-year option attached to Jones' rookie contract, a decision that could lead to the team searching for a new quarterback either in next year's draft class or with two coveted draft assets in hand.
