How the Los Angeles Rams arrived at Super Bowl LIII

The Rams are set to represent the NFC in their first Super Bowl appearance in 17 years. Here's a look at how they got to the big game.

L.A. kicked off its season with an easy win on the road over the Raiders on "Monday Night Football." Jared Goff threw two touchdowns, and the defense picked off Derek Carr three times. The Rams were able to outscore Oakland, 23-0, in the second half.

The Rams dominance continued into Week 2, with a demolition of the Cardinals. Jared Goff threw for 354 yards, and the defense held Sam Bradford to only 90 yards passing in the shutout.

In what some figured to be an NFC championship preview, the Rams had no problems beating the Vikings on "Thursday Night Football." Goff had a career day with 465 yards passing and five touchdowns, while Cooper Kupp had nine receptions for 162 yards and two scores.

L.A. needed a fourth-quarter surge to beat the NFC West rival Seahawks 33-31. Todd Gurley had three rushing touchdowns, but the Rams allowed 190 yards on the ground to Seattle in the home victory.

The Rams got all they could handle at Denver in a t ough 23-20 victory. While Jared Goff struggled, Todd Gurley came up big with 208 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips also had an effective game plan in his return to Denver, holding the Broncos to only 60 yards rushing.

The Rams suffered their first loss of the season in a visit to New Orleans. Drew Brees tore up the team's secondary, passing for 346 yards and four touchdowns, including 211 yards to Michael Thomas. Jared Goff still had a good day, throwing for 391 yards and three touchdowns. Cornerback Marcus Peters was burned by Thomas for a long touchdown near the end of the game, sparking a postgame war of words between Peters and Saints head coach Sean Payton in the media.

The Rams were taken to the limit by Seattle for the second time, escaping with a five-point win after a late Brandin Cooks touchdown. Seattle rushed for 273 yards, but Jared Goff had a great day with 318 yards passing and two touchdowns.

The NFL had to call a late audible after the field conditions in Mexico City moved the "Monday Night Football" game back to L.A. just a few days before the game was scheduled to be played. L.A. fans were in for a treat in what some said was the best regular-season game ever, as the Rams and Chiefs went back and forth. The teams combined for more than 1,000 yards on offense, but L.A. emerged victorious after two late-game interceptions of Patrick Mahomes. Jared Goff had 413 yards passing and four touchdowns, while Mahomes threw for 478 yards and six touchdowns.

The Rams came off the bye week to defeat Detroit after two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Todd Gurley starred on offense with 23 carries for 132 yards and two scores.

The Rams weren't able to generate much offense in the elements at Soldier Field. Jared Goff had easily the worst game of his season, completing only 20-of-44 passes for 180 yards and four interceptions, while Todd Gurley rushed for only 28 yards. LA was held scoreless in the second half.

While the Rams returned home in Week 15, they had another disappointing loss. Jared Goff failed to find the end zone despite 339 yards passing, and Alshon Jeffery exploited the Rams secondary for 160 yards receiving.

After consecutive losses, the Rams found the remedy to be a visit to Arizona. Starting for the injured Todd Gurley, C.J. Anderson rushed for 167 yards and a one touchdown on 20 carries, and the Rams defense held Josh Rosen to only 87 yards passing.

L.A. had no trouble running through the Cowboys' acclaimed run defense, as the tandem of C.J. Anderson and Todd Gurley helped the Rams finish with 273 yards on the ground. Controlling the ball for most of the game, L.A. cruised to a 30-22 win.

The Rams overcame a 13-10 halftime deficit to beat the Saints, 26-23, in overtime on a 57-yards Greg Zuerlein field goal. The game wasn't without controversy, as cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman committed a clear pass interference penalty on Tommylee Lewis that wasn't called by the officials near the end of the fourth quarter. Instead of running out the clock, the Saints had to settle for a field goal before Zuerlein was able to tie the game on a 48-yard field goal to send the game to overtime.
