Jets Make Move To Sign Former Cowboys’ Defensive Starter

Brown is someone that the Jets have been keeping tabs on for a few months. He visited the team for a workout in August according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. While no deal was reached at the time, things went well enough that New York kept him in mind and have now added him to the fold.

A sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Brown carved out a solid role with the Cowboys, where he played the first seven seasons of his career. He was quite productive in Dallas, recording nine interceptions and 59 passes defended.

The Purdue product appeared in two games with the San Francisco 49ers this season but didn’t play any snaps on defense. He was on the field for six special teams snaps and will now be joining the Jets’ practice squad.

The secondary is arguably the Jets’ strongest unit on the roster, headlined by the star duo of Suace Gardner and D.J. Reed. Brandin Echols has been making some highlight plays in recent weeks as well, as Michael Carter and Bryce Hall provide depth behind them.

Brown will provide the Jets with some veteran insurance on the practice squad should any needs arise down the stretch of the season. New York was a little short-handed at times earlier in the season with injuries hitting the secondary hard. Should that occur again, they now have someone in Brown they can turn to in a pinch to handle a role in their defensive backfield.
