Julian Edelman gets beard shaved by Ellen DeGeneres for charity
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Julian Edelman dropped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” for an episode that will air Friday, and the Super Bowl LIII MVP allowed the host to shave his bushy beard. The best part? It was all for charity.

DeGeneres offered to donate $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Boston if Edelman allowed her to shave his beard.

Considering the massive amount of facial hair the New England Patriots wide receiver was sporting — “It’s like a child. It grows on you,” Edelman said of his beard — it was quite the process. Edelman also explained why he allowed his beard to get so out of control in the first place.

“Coach Belichick has this thing that he says: ‘Put everything in the drawer and don’t worry about it until the season is done.’ So I put my razor actually in the drawer,” he says on the show, adding, “He’s a very intimidating man.”

After DeGeneres, armed with clippers, completed the shave and it was all said and done, Edelman acknowledged the substantial change that had just occurred.

“I look like a different person,” Edelman said.

Edelman’s entire segment on “Ellen” follows.

Edelman also pledged to chip in $10,000 himself, bringing the total donation the Boys & Girls Club of Boston to $20,000.
