New Details Emerge On Dallas Cowboys’ Deal With Ezekiel Elliott
Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys entered the NFL offseason aiming to fortify their roster and elevate their status as Super Bowl contenders. However, their activity in the offseason has been relatively subdued.

In addressing their need for additional depth in the running back position, the Cowboys opted to re-sign a familiar face in Ezekiel Elliott, a former All-Pro and Pro Bowl running back.

According to reports from ESPN’s Todd Archer, Elliott’s recently confirmed one-year deal is valued at a maximum of $3 million.

The contract breakdown reveals a signing bonus of $375,000, a base salary of $1.25 million, and an active roster bonus of $375,000. With a cap number of $2 million, Elliott also stands to earn up to $1 million in incentives for the 2024 season.

Selected by Jerry Jones as the fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Elliott has amassed an impressive resume over his seven-year career. With three Pro Bowl selections to his name, he twice led the league in rushing yards (in 2016 and 2018) and achieved four seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards.

Additionally, he consistently contributed over 1,100 scrimmage yards in six out of his seven seasons playing alongside Dak Prescott.

Despite a less productive 2023 season with the New England Patriots, where he recorded a career-low 642 rushing yards, Elliott showcased versatility by totaling 955 yards and five touchdowns under Bill Belichick’s system. This performance, coupled with his proven track record, convinced the Cowboys that he could serve as a valuable role player in their lineup.

The return of Elliott offers the potential for a dynamic backfield duo alongside emerging talent Deuce Vaughn, providing Head Coach Mike McCarthy with versatile options in the team’s offensive scheme.

With three consecutive seasons of 12 wins under their belt, the Dallas Cowboys aim to remain competitive with the assistance of Ezekiel Elliott, a franchise legend, as they seek to make a strong push towards Super Bowl contention once again.
