NFL Analyst Sees Raiders’ Derek Carr Having Tom Brady-Like Season From 2007

There is a lot of pressure on the Las Vegas Raiders, particularly the offense, to deliver this season. With the addition of arguably the top receiver in the NFL, Davante Adams, all eyes will be on quarterback Derek Carr to step up with Adams, Hunter Renfrow, Darren Waller, and Josh Jacobs at his disposal, along with new head coach Josh McDaniels being a great offensive mind.

Carr garnered a ton of praise for what he did last season, throwing for a career-high 4,804 yards and leading the Raiders to the playoffs despite many off-field issues surrounding the team. However, now one analyst has put a whole new level of expectations on the Raiders quarterback.

In an appearance on NFL Live, ESPN football analyst Ryan Clark said that he is looking for Carr to have a breakout season similar to that of Tom Brady in 2007, via Raiders Nation Boston:

For context, in 2006, Brady completed 61.8% of his passes for 3,529 yards and 24 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. The following year, after the Patriots acquired Hall of Famer Randy Moss, Brady’s numbers exploded to 4,806 yards on a 68.9% completion percentage with 50 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. Brady would win his first of 3 Regular Season MVPs while leading the Patriots to an undefeated regular season.

For Carr, taking a leap like that in touchdown passes would be massive for the Raiders’ offense. His current career-high is 32 in 2015, just his second year in the NFL. He has yet to reach 30 since then and threw just 23 last season, along with 14 interceptions.

Expecting Carr to leap into the 40s might be a little much as only 10 players have thrown 40 or more touchdowns in a single season, though Brady has done so in each of the last two. Even still, Carr going into the mid-to-high 30s while getting his interception total down in the single digits would do wonders for the Raiders’ offense.

What is clear is that Carr has all the weapons he needs at his disposal regarding skill players and guys who can make things happen. It will be on him to deliver as that comes with the territory of being an NFL quarterback.
