Panthers CB Donte Jackson out for season with groin injury

The Carolina Panthers are still hoping to get back prized rookie cornerback Jaycee Horn at some point this season. On Tuesday, the team announced that another one of their starting corners has been shut down for the rest of the year.

Per The Athletic , fourth-year pro Donte Jackson has been placed on injured reserve with a groin injury and will miss the rest of the 2021 season.

"It’s still to be determined if surgery will be needed to repair the issue, according to a source," the report read. "Jackson has been playing through injuries throughout the season."

Jackson was taken by the Panthers in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft and set career-highs in tackles (74) and interceptions (four) as a rookie, starting in all 16 contests. Jackson was limited to 27 games across the 2019 and 2020 campaigns, but still registered 74 more tackles and six more interceptions in the two years combined.

Through 12 games this season, Jackson ranks third on the team with 61 tackles and is tied for first with a pair of interceptions.
