Panthers HC Matt Rhule: Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is 'one of the most amazing players I've ever seen'

This week, the Carolina Panthers will host the Arizona Cardinals in a battle of 1-2 squads.

On Monday, 24 hours after Carolina's 22-14 victory over the New Orleans Saints, head coach Matt Rhule said he's looking for quarterback Baker Mayfield and the passing offense to "step up" in Week 4, per Augusta Stone of the team's official website.

While Rhule is hoping to see more from Mayfield after three lackluster starts, he's already more than sold on Sunday's opposing quarterback, Kyler Murray

Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Rhule called Murray one of the "rare, rare, rare athletic players I've seen in my life."

Rhule spent seven years as a head coach at the collegiate level, with Temple and Baylor, before landing the Carolina job three years ago. During his time in college, Rhule saw firsthand what Murray could do on the football field.

"I saw him do things on the college football field that made me wanna just walk off the field," Rhule told reporters. "We sacked him, we knocked the ball out of his hands, it bounced on the ground three times, he picked it up and threw it for an 18-yard first down. He's one of the most amazing players I've ever seen in my life."

Murray, coming off his second consecutive Pro Bowl nod, is off to a slow start this season. Murray boasts a 63.8 completion percentage through the air with 784 passing yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Meanwhile, on the ground, Murray has rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown off 12 carries.
