Phillip Lindsay Is Once Again Looking For A Chance

ESPN’s Stephen Holder tweeted, “Source confirms Colts cut RB Phillip Lindsay, as @RapSheet first reported.”

Holder also commented, “I’m pretty surprised. I know why they did it — special teams — but I thought there was room to keep him. He looked really good in camp/preseason. I don’t love this move.”

While the Colts will have a reason for this decision, it’s difficult to see a player like Lindsay losing grip on his impact on the field.

After spending five seasons in Colorado, he went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft.

However, the Denver Broncos took a chance on him, and he delivered two 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

His 2018 stats of 1,039 yards and eight touchdowns were enough to get him a Pro Bowl selection.

He followed up his impressive rookie campaign with 1,011 yards and seven touchdowns in 2019.

Since then, his production dropped with only 502 yards and a touchdown in 11 games played in 2020.

Last season, he had a combined 209 yards and a touchdown in 13 games for the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins.

The Colts signed him last May and will release him before the 2022 NFL season.

Colts’ Running Back Depth Chart Remains Stacked

With Lindsay gone, Indianapolis’ ground attack should continue to deliver because of Jonathan Taylor.

In 2021, he achieved the running back triple crown after leading the league in rushing attempts (332), yards (1,811), and touchdowns (18).

Backing him up will be Nyheim Hines, who may likely be their return specialist as well.

Hines had 276 yards and two touchdowns for Indianapolis last season.

Aside from Taylor and Hines, the Colts also have second-year players Deon Jackson and Ty’Son Williams, who was with the Baltimore Ravens last year.
