QB Robert Griffin III donates over 20,000 meals to Texas food banks

Veteran NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III ended the 2020 season as a member of the Baltimore Ravens but was released following Baltimore's playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. The 31-year-old grew up in Texas, though, and, thus, has ties with communities hit hard by extreme winter weather conditions that left thousands of residents without power, drinkable water, and hot water for days.

As Josh Alper explained for Pro Football Talk, Griffin's RG3 Foundation has donated 10,500 meals to both the Houston Food Bank and the North Texas Food Bank. The foundation also shared donation links for fundraising campaigns.

NFL cornerback and two-time Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award nominee Pierre Desir generated headlines when he donated 10,000 meals to the Houston Food Bank even though he has zero ties to the area. Desir spent time with the New York Jets and, later, the Ravens during the 2020 season.

Griffin joined the Ravens as a backup in the spring of 2018. Both Trace McSorley and undrafted rookie Tyler Huntley had leapfrogged Griffin on the Baltimore depth chart by the start of last month's postseason tournament, which made the club's decision to release the second overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft all the easier.
