Report: Seahawks, Panthers interested in Cam Newton
Cam Newton Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Cam Newton’s decision to return for the 2022-23 NFL season was relatively unsurprising. He feels like he still has something left to offer.

Last year, he had a messy split with the New England Patriots that involved ugly back-and-forth exchanges with head coach Bill Belichick. Mac Jones then went on to have a much better campaign than he did one season prior.

Newton, meanwhile, joined the Carolina Panthers, with whom he was moderately decent.

Despite Sam Darnold participating in four more games and 500 more snaps, he recorded a mere five more touchdowns than Newton did. Clearly there wasn’t much of a differential there in terms of talent.

So what does that mean for Newton this season?

According to NFL insider Sheena Quick, two teams have legitimate interest in him. Those two teams: the Panthers and Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle being in the running certainly makes sense. With Russell Wilson gone, it’s Drew Lock and Geno Smith battling it out for a starting quarterback slot. One potential trade hovers in the background, but it seems less likely with every passing day.

There has also been some chatter regarding the Dallas Cowboys as a potential option for Newton.

Will Newton be able to land in a good situation for 2022-23?

Time will tell.
