Skyy Moore Reflects on Underwhelming Week 1
USA TODAY Sports

Second-year wide receiver Skyy Moore had a disappointing start to his sophomore season in the Kansas City Chiefs' season-opening loss to the Detroit Lions. Moore was targeted three times for zero receptions, despite the fact that he played 45 of the Chiefs' 65 offensive snaps — the most of any Chiefs wide receiver.

On Thursday, Moore spoke to the media for the first time since Kansas City's loss to the Lions. Asked what the Chiefs' receivers wanted to improve on entering Week 2, Moore went big-picture.

"Just every aspect," Moore said. "We understand that wasn’t our best performance, and it needs to get better."

As the entire passing game struggled to find consistency in the absence of tight end Travis Kelce, Moore was asked how quarterback Patrick Mahomes interacts with his pass-catchers on a frustrating night like last Thursday.

"Pat is great with stuff like that, just always making sure you’re in a great head space," Moore said. "You see it all the time, you see if someone drops the ball in a game, he’s coming right back at you trying to get you to forget about it. I feel like the whole locker room has been doing good just flipping to the next page."

Even with all of the Chiefs' offensive issues against the Lions, a final heave by Mahomes on 4th-and-25 nearly connected with Moore, which would have kept the Chiefs on the field with two minutes remaining, only needing a field goal to take the lead. On Thursday, Moore said it wasn't just catchable — he said he should have reeled it in.

"I came super close to catching it," Moore said. "I probably should have caught it. But I didn’t. So, you know, on to Jacksonville."
