Source: Anthony Brown at The Star; Should Cowboys Re-Sign?
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys are packing for training camp and they've loaded up at cornerback. But should they give some consideration to a reunion with the reliable and rehabbing Anthony Brown?

Brown has played all seven years of his career in Dallas but suffered an Achilles tear after starting 12 games for them in 2022. While the organization has assembled for itself a superstar cornerback duo in Trevon Diggs and the recently acquired Stephon Gilmore, we wonder if Brown’s familiarity in Dallas could lead to a reunion.

A source tells CowboysSI.com that Brown, 29, has been doing some work inside The Star - mostly rehab-related, we assume. We are also told that he has spend considerable time in the Frisco area working out with his former Cowboys teammates.

We have made the case before that nobody is tougher than Brown, who has a Dallas history of trying to play through a punctured lung and a broken rib and the like. He was also very good in his last full season; in 2021 he had 71 tackles and three interceptions.

If Dallas opts to not go this direction, it will most likely be as a result of the medical staff having insight into his rehab. But he would almost certainly come affordably ... as has largely always been the case since he surprised many by making the Cowboys despite being taken late in the 2016 NFL Draft.

With veteran stars like Diggs and Gilmore already suiting up for Dallas this season, there is the notion of "the progress-stopper,'' a reliable vet whose presence might actually delay the development of somebody like, say, rookie cornerback Eric Scott Jr. - another late-round prospect who is off to a great start.

We know Brown is laying low here; he's not much for publicity and he's rather let his performance do his speaking for him. How is he performing as he rehabs? Know this: The Cowboys - on a medical level and via his old teammates - are staying plugged in.
