Steelers Scouting Top Center at Pro Day

The Pittsburgh Steelers moved on from starting center Mason Cole early this offseason and as a result, have gone looking for replacements in free agency and the NFL Draft.

The Steelers are taking their search far and wide this offseason and that includes going out west to Eugene, Oregon to watch Oregon Ducks center Jackson Powers-Johnson go through workouts at his pro day.

Big NFL contingent from 30 NFL teams in Eugene today for Oregon pro-day with @ChicagoBears (8) and @nyjets (5) having most club reps.

According to Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan did not make the trip out to Eugene to see Powers-Johnson, one of the top offensive linemen available in this year’s draft class, but offensive line coach Pat Meyer was in attendance.

Powers-Johnson stands 6’3 and weighs 330 pounds with impressive agility that comes as unexpected when compared to other players his size.

Centers don’t typically go in the first round of the NFL Draft but Powers-Johnson is a rare exception and the Steelers, sitting at pick No. 20 in the first round, could be in prime position to land him.
