Super Bowl champion Demarcus Ware thinks Broncos QB Russell Wilson needs to 'run wild'

Super Bowl champion Demarcus Ware has one bit of advice for quarterback Russell Wilson: "Run wild." The former Broncos defensive end explained “Russell Wilson isn’t washed”; the Broncos just need to let him scramble all over the place and sling the ball downfield.

Ware told Colin Cowherd on Friday, “Let him string out plays out, which he’s great at doing. If they let him do that, which he did in his last game, that’s when they’ll start winning football games.”

Ware’s point is valid, Wilson struggled the entire game when he stood in the pocket like he was stuck in cement. It wasn’t until Wilson started darting through the 49ers defense in the fourth quarter that he looked like the magic $245 million savior the Broncos have been waiting nearly a decade for.

Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett told NBC Sports' Peter King, “(Wilson) said, 'I’m comfortable. I’m gonna use my legs here. I’ve got to make this happen.' He did. Hopefully that’s the start of it for him.

Hackett has been hesitant to let Wilson play with reckless abandon, because he fears injury. Wilson broke a finger on his right hand last season. However, restraining Wilson isn’t the answer; it actually caps offensive firepower.

“It’s like you put the shackles on him,” Ware said. “I have a Russell system. Let Russell run the system, and win football games, I mean he’s amazing. “

Hackett might add this component into his system.

“A couple times Russell took off and made big plays, that’s what we’re looking for,” Hackett said in a Tuesday news conference.
