Sydney Brown Adjusting to NFL: 'It’s Just Different’

Philadelphia Eagles rookie safety Sydney Brown has started to adjust to the speed of an NFL game.

"It slows down right, you see some stuff," Brown said. "It's just different plays, different team, different personnel."

Brown collected one tackle in the Eagles most recent preseason game, an 18-18 tie against the Browns. It was a loud tackle, as Brown came from the opposite side of the field to take down Cleveland Browns running back John Kelly Jr.

The rookie safety also played in Philadelphia's preseason opener, collecting nine tackles, all of which were solo tackles.

The Eagles and the Browns held joint practices leading up to their preseason game this week.

"Everything's just so quick," Brown said. "You can only be studying for so long, practice against them for a couple days and then you're right in the game."

Safety is a position that Philadelphia has tried to improve upon this offseason. Reed Blankenship and K'Von Wallace were the only holdovers from last season, as the Eagles signed Terrell Edmunds and Justin Evans while also drafting Brown.

Philadelphia drafted Brown in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Illinois. He finished his collegiate career with 10 interceptions, 26 passes defended, 319 total tackles, and 10 tackles for loss. He was also named team captain during his time with the Fighting Illini.

Brown will look to keep up his strong preseason performance when the Eagles take on the Indianapolis Colts in their final preseason game on Thursday.
