Texans QB CJ Stroud Is Getting Patrick Mahomes Comparisons
Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

Excitement surrounds Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud as he commands attention on the field. Supported by a talented array of wide receivers including Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and the recent acquisition Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills, Stroud is poised for a significant showcase of his skills.

In his debut NFL season, Stroud emerged as a standout performer, guiding the Texans to the playoffs and securing a memorable playoff victory. This remarkable rise has fueled immense anticipation regarding his potential, prompting the Texans to make bold moves geared towards immediate success, including vying for a Super Bowl title.

As the 2024 NFL Draft approaches on Thursday night, the Texans possess ample opportunity to bolster their roster depth and talent, all while benefiting from Stroud’s rookie contract, which enables financial flexibility in assembling a competitive team.

The upcoming draft class boasts a wealth of talent at the wide receiver position, presenting the Texans with the chance to secure a highly skilled player with either the 42nd or 59th pick.

Among the standout prospects is South Carolina’s Xavier Legette, whose admiration for CJ Stroud and the prospect of joining forces with him adds intrigue to the Texans’ draft strategy.

Legette spoke out and dropped some Patrick Mahomes comparisons for Stroud.

“Playing with C.J. Stroud, that’s almost just as good as playing with Pat Mahomes. Stroud, he’s young and he did a great job his rookie season. If I’m blessed enough to go there, we could do some damage.”

While the Texans already boast talent at the wide receiver position, the addition of fresh talent, particularly on rookie contracts with significant potential, holds undeniable appeal.

Legette’s impressive college stats, accumulating 1,255 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his final collegiate season, further underline the allure of adding him to the Texans’ roster.

Notably, the Texans were among Legette’s initial interviews during his pre-draft process, although this was prior to the acquisition of Diggs. Regardless of the draft outcomes, all eyes will be on the Texans this offseason as they aim to solidify their status as contenders and elevate their performance in the upcoming 2024 NFL season.
