Three cut candidates for Denver Broncos

Sitting at $12M under the cap, per Spotrac, the Denver Broncos have room to maneuver. Denver, coming off a disastrous 5-12 season, has many needs and a new coach (Sean Payton) who's eager to put his imprint on the team. Here are three cut candidates.

Graham Glasgow, Guard

Denver's offensive line is one of the league's weaker units, allowing the most sacks (63) in 2022. Over 15 starts, Russell Wilson was sacked a career-high 55 times.

Per OverTheCap, if Denver cuts Glasgow, it will save $11 million in cap space.

That money would be well spent on impending free-agent OT Orlando Brown Jr. of the Chiefs. He's a four-time Pro Bowler. According to Spotrac, his market value is a five-year deal with $22.5M in annual salary.

Chase Edmonds, RB

The Broncos acquired Edmonds in the Bradley Chubb trade to add depth at RB after Javonte Williams suffered a season-ending ACL tear. But Edmonds battled a nagging ankle injury and only started one game.

Latavius Murray became Denver's leading rusher with 703 yards. The Broncos should hold on to Murray, an impending free agent. He played under Payton for two seasons in New Orleans.

Also, Williams will return sometime in 2023, making Edmonds expendable. Denver will save $5.9M and incur no dead money if it cuts Edmonds, allowing him to restart his career elsewhere.

Ronald Darby, CB

Darby was a Super Bowl champion in Philadelphia, but injuries and other players breaking out prevented him from finding more success in Denver.

The Broncos have a top-tier CB in Patrick Surtain II, a 22-year-old coming off his first Pro Bowl. Rookie Damarri Mathis showed promise, recording the fifth-most tackles on the team with 65.

Denver's solid secondary makes holding on to Darby, who missed 17 games with injury over the past two seasons, more unlikely. His release would create $9.6M in cap savings.
