The NFL announced the Chiefs-Dolphins international plans on May 10, one day ahead of the league's full schedule release. It was also announced that day that Kansas City and the Cincinnati Bengals would be renewing their brewing rivalry on New Year's Eve.
Per NFL Research, Chiefs opponents had a 147-140-0 record last year, giving them the 16th-most difficult schedule in the upcoming season.
The Dolphins opponents, meanwhile, had a 158-127-2 mark in 2022, making their 2023 slate the second-most difficult in the NFL.
Munich hosted the first-ever NFL game in Germany during the 2022 campaign between the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There were five international games last season, including one in Mexico and three in the United Kingdom.
This year's clash between Kansas City and Miami will take place at Deutsche Bank Park. The other Germany game will pit the Indianapolis Colts against the New England Patriots on Nov. 12 at Frankfurt Stadium.
The other international games on the NFL docket this year include three games in London, two of which will be played by the Jacksonville Jaguars in back-to-back weeks. The Jaguars will take on the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 1 at Wembley Stadium, before playing the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 8 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans will square off on Oct. 15 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
With the defending Super Bowl-champion Chiefs still featuring some of the most exciting names in the game like MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce and head coach Andy Reid, it's no surprise that the tickets were gone so quickly. The Dolphins roster is loaded too with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and having one of the more charismatic head coaches in the league in Mike McDaniel likely helps the popularity ahead of this Week 9 showdown.
