Trey Lance clears up Tennessee Titans rumors

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance cleared up any misperceptions of him retweeting a post from the team's former director of player personnel Ran Carthon, wrote Around the NFL Writer Kevin Petra in a Friday article.

The now-Tennessee Titans general manager posted an announcement last month, and Lance retweeted it with three finger-crossed emojis.

"Me and Ran got close," Lance said during an interview on "The Q with Quincy Avery" live stream. "He'd bring his boys in, and I'd talk to his kids. For me, that was huge. It was like a shining light. Just getting to know someone's family like that. I was super happy for him.

"The fingers crossed emoji wasn't like 'cross my fingers emoji, I want to be a Tennessee Titan.' I love it here. I don't want to be anywhere else. That's my No. 1 used emoji too."

Lance was selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State. He played in eight games over two seasons with the Niners, earning 797 passing yards and five passing touchdowns.

He was selected in the same draft class as Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields and New York Jets signal-caller Zach Wilson.

Lance is still rehabbing from an ankle injury he suffered in Week 2 and the surgery that followed it, wrote Petra. Lance completed two of his three pass attempts in a 27-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.

Lance may not have broken out into a star just yet, but keeping a top-five quarterback selection from the  2021 class is always a plus.

Quarterback Brock Purdy recently broke out into a fan-favorite option for the Niners after his performances in the regular season and the playoffs.

Barring injuries, and should Lance stand by his statement, the Niners should be in a fantastic position at quarterback with Purdy, Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.
