Tyrann Mathieu says Chiefs have 'one of the most toxic fan bases' in sports

After eight straight winning seasons and two consecutive Super Bowl appearances, no one expected the Kansas City Chiefs to struggle as much as they have so far in 2021. The team has yet to string together consecutive wins en route to a 3-4 start to the season.

The lack of success has many in Kansas City frustrated, and three-time All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu is sick of hearing about it from Chiefs fans.

“This might be one of the most toxic fan bases in all of sports,” Mathieu wrote in a comment on Instagram.

Mathieu's remark came as a reply to a comment from his teammate Anthony Hitchens. The pair of messages came under a post that implied the five-year contract Hitchens received from the Chiefs in 2018 was one of general manager Brett Veach's worst mistakes.

"All we did was go to 3 AFC champions games and 2 Super Bowls and 1 SB win .. in my first 3 years here so far !!y’all fans will never be satisfied it’s sad !!" Hitchens' comment read.

Mathieu, 29, began his career with the Arizona Cardinals and spent one season with the Houston Texans before joining the Chiefs in 2019. Earlier in the season, Mathieu fired back on Twitter at "cry baby" fans who criticized his tackling during a 31-13 win against Washington. He later deleted the tweets.
