UFC Announcer Bruce Buffer Assesses 49ers' Brock Purdy
USA TODAY Sports

LAS VEGAS -- Super Bowl opening night kicked off with a bang. That is thanks to the tone set by legendary UFC announcer Bruce Buffer.

He announced the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs when they emerged from the tunnel. There was no better way to start off Super Bowl week than with Buffer himself. Just like how there was no better matchup for a Super Bowl in Las Vegas than 49ers versus Chiefs. Here is what Buffer said when I asked him if these two teams were a fitting matchup for the city.

"No question. These two teams are amazing," said Buffer. "Kansas City's defense, San Francisco's offense, Patrick Mahomes quarterback, Purdy quarterback. Purdy is about to have the game of his life to set his future and his career at a pace faster than ever. You know what? I'm so excited. I can't wait to watch."

Buffer also gave his thoughts on Brock Purdy when I asked him about his emergence. Here is what he had to say.

"Well, I think one of the key things about Purdy is that he recognizes that he's not above anybody. He's proving himself and he's done it this whole season. Now he has a chance, not to necessarily prove himself because he's proved himself already, but he has a chance to make an achievement that will last him a lifetime. Just being in the Super Bowl is an achievement that will last him a lifetime, but one of the things about Purdy as others, including Mahomes and Kelce and all these other great gridiron warriors, is that they're humble."

Buffer is on point about the humility of Purdy. Every single time he speaks, it makes you wonder why he has any haters out there. It's one thing to criticize Purdy about his few poor performances, but it is another to continually bash him. That is something that will continue unless he leads the 49ers to a Super Bowl victory on Sunday. Even then, I am not entirely sure he will not face any criticism.

Regardless, it's all irrelevant to him. Purdy knows who he is and so do his teammates and coaches. All he needs to do is win this last game, then no one should be able to say anything. Buffer leaves Purdy with some last little bit of advice with the big game approaching.

"Be the best at what you do, and it's not about what you did last week, it's not about what you're going to say tomorrow, it's about what you do today. So, prove yourself."
