Week 6 NFL winners: Tyreek Hill makes history, defenses shine against final undefeated squads

With most of the games in the books, here's a look at the Week 6 winners in the NFL:

Tyreek Hill, WR Miami Dolphins : As shocking as it might sound, Hill had another big day in Week 6, helping lead the Dolphins to a 42-21 blowout win over the Carolina Panthers. Hill caught six of 10 targets for 163 yards, averaging an astounding 27.2 yards per reception, but also drew a little controversy.

Late in the first half, Hill grabbed a 41-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa before grabbing a cell phone and doing a celebration backflip, an incident which is sure to leave him light in the wallet.

Extracurricular activities aside, Hill made NFL history on Sunday, too. The explosive wideout has surpassed 150 yards receiving in every game this season, becoming the first player in NFL history to do so six weeks into a campaign.

Raheem Mostert, RB Miami Dolphins: Mostert continued his outstanding 2023 with another incredible performance in the Dolphins' 42-21 win over the Carolina Panthers. Mostert rushed for 115 yards (17 carries) and two touchdowns on the ground while adding three catches for 17 yards and a score through the air.

He leads the NFL with 11 TDs, and only Jim Brown (15, 1958), Shaun Alexander (12, 2005), Emerson Boozer (12, 1967) and Abner Haynes (12, 1962) have scored more through the first six weeks of a season, per Tristan H. Cockcroft of ESPN.

Cleveland Browns defense: The Browns handed the San Francisco 49ers their first loss of 2023, winning 19-17, largely thanks to their defense. Cleveland held the 49ers offense to only 215 yards of offense, their lowest since 2016. They kept WR Deebo Samuel (one catch, one yard) and RB Christian McCaffrey (11 carries, 43 yards, one TD) in check and forced quarterback Brock Purdy into his worst day as a starter

Under duress most of the day, Purdy finished with the lowest passer rating of his career (55.3), going 12-of-27 for 125 yards and a touchdown.

C.J. Stroud, QB Houston Texans: Stroud's stats in the Texans' 20-13 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday weren't eye-opening. However, the rookie continued to look the part of a franchise quarterback while showing poise beyond his years.

Stroud was 13-of-27 for 199 yards and two touchdowns in the win, helping the surprising Texans head into their bye week at 3-3, led by a first-year QB and head coach.

Stroud did see his record-setting streak without throwing an interception end at 191 passes, though how he responded should excite Texans fans. On Houston's next possession, Stroud led a six-play, 59-yard scoring drive, capping it off with a one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dalton Schultz.

New York Jets defense: The Jets stunned the previously undefeated Philadelphia Eagles 20-14 behind a massive effort from their defense. After giving up 14 points before halftime, the Jets shut out the Eagles in the second half to preserve the victory.

Meanwhile, they forced four turnovers and intercepted quarterback Jalen Hurts three times. Hurts is the third premiere QB the Jets defensive unit has made look pedestrian, joining Patrick Mahomes (63.6 QBR, Week 4) and Josh Allen (62.7 QBR, Week 1).

Jared Goff, QB Detroit Lions: Goff had himself a day against a tough Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The veteran quarterback had arguably his best day as a Lion, finishing 30-of-44 for 353 yards and two touchdowns. After the conclusion of the late-game schedule, Goff was the only QB to surpass 300 yards passing without throwing an interception.

The Lions topped the Bucs, 20-6, moving to 5-1. With Goff leading the way, they're all alone atop the NFC North and have won four straight games for the first time since 2011.

Kyren Williams, RB Los Angeles Rams: Williams had a career day in the Rams' 26-9 win over the Arizona Cardinals but remarkably did most of his damage in the second half. Williams finished with a touchdown and 158 yards off 20 carries, averaging a robust 7.9 yards per attempt.

However, Williams compiled 151 yards on the ground after halftime, helping swing the momentum in what was a close game for a time. The Rams trailed the Cardinals 9-6 at the break but went on a 20-0 run in the second half to seal the victory, improving their record to 3-3.

Justin Tucker, K Baltimore Ravens : It only took six games, but Tucker finally had a breakout performance. Tucker uncharacteristically missed an extra point in Week 6 but finished a perfect 6-of-6 on field goal attempts, accounting for 18 points to outscore the Tennessee Titans all by himself in the Ravens' 24-16 victory.

By Tucker's standards, he was off to a slow start in 2023. Tucker had made only five (5-of-7) field goals through the season's first five weeks. Perhaps this is the kind of outing that gets Tucker going.
