What drafting wide receiver Tyler Scott could mean for Bears

Scott is similar to current slot receiver Darnell Mooney, another speedy, smaller receiver who can be dynamic underneath or over the top.

The organization already has plenty of stock invested in Chase Claypool and Moore, so their jobs seems safe. However, it could be of note that Scott is learning the slot position and may have been drafted to fill the role.

Mooney will be a free agent after this season and could depart if Scott is able to take over the role. If there is a shift, it could take some time, however, as Scott spent 97% of snaps on the outside at the University of Cincinnati.

While roster moves a year down the road are merely speculation, the slot receiver position could be something to keep an eye on during the 2023 season. 

While Mooney has produced more for the Bears than any receiver behind him, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the team get Scott experience wherever it can, allowing him to learn the position by splitting time with Mooney. 

Perhaps Chicago could even work more from an empty set, allowing both players to get on the field and make an impact for a team looking to turn its offense into a powerhouse. Either way, the position to watch in the run-up to the season could be in the slot.
