Big and smart and gifted and fast? Especially "fast''? There aren't too many athletes on the planet that offer up a complete package that matches D.K. Metcalf. But as confident as D.K. is in his speed and in his "complete package'' - he speaks often and playfully of wanting to challenge this guy or that guy in a footrace - there's apparently one player he wants no part of.

And he'll see that player every day once his Seattle Seahawks get to training camp when he lines up against second-year cornerback Tariq Woolen.

Woolen ran a 4.26 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2022. That is .07 seconds faster than Metcalf's 4.33 effort at the Combine three years before

On the "All Things Covered" podcast, Metcalf admitted that Woolen is "that guy,'' and even used the word "scared'' when discussing a track matchup.

"He's probably the only person that I'm scared to race," Metcalf said.

Metcalf has challenged Dolphins speedster Tyreek Hill to a race in the past and he has lined up against Olympic-level sprinters as well. At 6-4 and 235 pounds, it is a sight to see him move. But as great as D.K. is at his job as an elite wide receiver working in the Seattle offense, Woolen is coming up as well, as he was the 2022 NFL co-leader in interceptions and a Pro Bowler in his rookie season.

And in a footrace? Woolen might not just be catching up to Metcalf - he may be leading him. ... which is why that is a footrace we might never see.
