Would signing WR Allen Robinson be worth the risk for Cardinals?

The Arizona Cardinals will be targeting multiple positions when NFL Free Agency begins Wednesday, and they will ponder on who will fit in the wide receiver position specifically.

Michael Wilson and Rondale Moore are on the roster currently while Greg Dortch was tendered. In Dortch’s case, he hasn’t signed with the Cardinals but will be able to negotiate when he is ready.

Free agent Marquise Brown could end up re-signing in Arizona, though there will be plenty of interested suitors from around the league.

With all of this in mind, Cards general manager Monti Ossenfort has to weigh his options.

One player that has just been made available is former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Allen Robinson.

After being released by the Steelers on Friday, Robinson is now a free agent.

Robinson’s Profile

The 10-year pro has included stops in Pittsburgh, with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears.

Making a name for himself, Robinson’s time as a Bear and Jaguar most notably sparked conversations about just how good he can be.

Out of Penn State, the Detroit native was a second-round (61st overall) pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by Jacksonville. On the Jaguars, he played four seasons (2014-2017) there, collecting 2,848 yards from 202 touches and 22 touchdowns. Robinson was a Pro Bowler in 2015.

As a free agent, Robinson signed a three-year contract in 2018 with the Bears and was franchise-tagged before the 2021 season. During his four-year stint in Chicago (2018-21), the 30-year-old grabbed 3,571 yards from 296 touches and scored 18 touchdowns.

Inking a three-year deal with the Rams on March 17, 2022, he would be traded after just one season in Los Angeles to the Steelers and was released despite having one year left on the contract. Robinson had just 339 yards and three touchdowns with the Rams in 2022 and no touchdowns from 280 yards of offense as a Steeler last year.

With Robinson’s stats dipping over the past few seasons, some may say it was the situations he was in with each team or age has been catching up to him as time goes by.

Either way, he can still rekindle the skill he once presented and join a Cardinals team that is trying to construct its receiver core for 2024.
