Zach Ertz Praises Detroit Lions, Dan Campbell for Legendary 2023 Playoff Run

Zach Ertz didn’t have a long career with the Detroit Lions. It was clear from the moment he was signed in the middle of the playoffs that he would only be a backup to a team that’s on an unexpected rise.

However, it seems like his experience working with Dan Campbell left nothing but good memories for the one-time Super Bowl champion. He had nothing but positive words to say about his time with the team.

Zach Ertz praises the culture cultivated in the Detroit Lions

Zach Ertz made an appearance on the Pat McAfee show to talk about the latest updates on his career. While he did talk about his current situation with the Washington Commanders, he also discussed his time with the Lions, where he was picked up as a depth option in the middle of the postseason.

Per Detroit Sports Nation’s Paul Tyler:

“Everyone knows what happened, we didn’t finish the game. It was tough watching, man,” Ertz said on the Pat McAfee Show. “I wanted to be out there. And just being out there, I love Detroit, I love Dan Campbell, Steve Heiden’s my guy, the tight end coach out there, and Sam LaPorta’s a stud, man. So it was a lot of fun being out there. Especially with all the drama that happened in Arizona, it was great to be back out there in a culture that was playing for an NFC Championship.”

He also talked about the mentality the Detroit Lions had during the playoffs, especially the potential rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII:

“The plan was to play in the Super Bowl, which would have been insane with everything that happened in the past year and a half.”

What makes Zach Ertz the perfect barometer for the Detroit Lions’ success?

Ertz won his first Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII, where they overcame heavy favorites in the New England Patriots who had Tom Brady and Bill Belichick at the top of their game. His experience with the Eagles means he knows and understands what it takes to win a Lombardi trophy.

The fact that he felt the same way with the Detroit Lions should spell great things for the organization moving forward.
