Alex Lyon makes 30 saves as Wings shut out Flyers
Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Alex Lyon made 30 saves while leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-0 home win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.

It was the third career shutout for Lyon, his second since joining Detroit as a free agent last summer.

Dylan Larkin, Moritz Seider and Andrew Copp scored the goals for the Red Wings, who improved to 8-2-1 in their past 11 games. Lucas Raymond notched two assists.

Despite holding a 30-17 advantage in shots, Philadelphia dropped its fourth consecutive game, all in regulation. Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson stopped 14 shots.

After a scoreless first period, Detroit broke the game open with three goals in the second.

Larkin scored his 20th of the season just 1:37 into the middle period, in the process extending his point streak to 10 games (seven goals, six assists). Larkin got free to the left of Ersson and put home a rebound off of a shot from Raymond.

At 7:15 of the second, Detroit took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Seider, who fired a shot from near the point that deflected off of the stick of Philadelphia's Morgan Frost and went underneath the crossbar.

Detroit capped the scoring at 10:08 of the second when Copp netted a short-handed goal. Michael Rasmussen gained control of the puck behind the Philadelphia net while trying to kill time, then passed to Copp, who fired a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that beat Ersson.

It was Copp's 100th career goal.

The third period was scoreless, and Philadelphia didn't pull Ersson in the waning minutes for an extra attacker in an attempt to get back in the game.

Even though the Red Wings were outshot, they dominated on draws, holding a 34-21 edge in faceoffs won for the game.

Detroit also blocked 22 shots to 18 for Philadelphia.

It was the third and final meeting of the regular season between the teams. Each team won a game in regulation, while Detroit won the other in a shootout.
