Blues forward David Perron set to test free-agent market
St. Louis Blues left wing David Perron Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

David Perron is off to the open market and will find himself as one of the league’s most coveted free agents.

Less than two days away from the start of NHL free agency on Wednesday, our own Frank Seravalli reported that the St. Louis Blues don’t have the cap space to make a proper offer at this time.

The 34-year-old has only ever signed contracts with the Blues, the team that took him No. 26 overall in 2007.

Despite stops with the Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks and Vegas Golden Knights, he’s always found his way back to the Gateway to the West. Perron has found himself a key cog in the Blues’ machine over the last four seasons remaining as dynamic as a player as ever.

In 251 games over that time he’s scored 94 goals and 221 points and has always elevated his game in the playoffs. Between the 2019, 2020 and 2022 playoffs, Perron has scored 20 goals and 38 points in 47 games. This past playoff was one of his best. He found the net nine times while chipping in four assists in 12 games.

Evolving Hockey projects he could earn $6.138-million per year on a three-year contract in free agency.
