Brad Treliving should have Daniel Briere & the Philadelphia Flyers on speed dial right now
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

There’s a fire sale happening in Philadelphia, and Brad Treliving and the Maple Leafs need to find a way to get in on the action.

Make no mistake about it: New Flyers general manager Daniel Briere is open for business and is willing to talk about just about anything.

A few weeks back, Philadelphia dealt Ivan Provorov to Columbus. Then, on Saturday, news started to surface about a potential blockbuster trade brewing between the Flyers and the St. Louis Blues. Regardless of whether it crosses the finish line or not, the vultures are circling in the city of brotherly love.

Enter the Toronto Maple Leafs.

From Scott Laughton to Travis Konecny to Travis Sanheim to even Carter Hart, there’s a variety of current Flyers that make a lot of sense for the Leafs to target on the trade market.

Sanheim’s very interesting. He’s 27 and in dire need of a change of scenery. That said, the only way I think it makes sense for Toronto is if he comes at a very reduced rate, or if the Flyers are willing to take Matt Murray —or something. Additionally, attaching T.J. Brodie to that type of deal could make a lot of sense, too. Any way you slice it, creativity is the name of the game, especially with the cap going up ever so slightly yet again.

Furthermore, incredibly, Sanheim’s monstrous eight year, $50-million extension (AAV: $6.25M) that he signed last October with Philly will finally kick in on July 1. Because the Flyers were a train wreck this season and Sanheim, himself, is coming off a poor campaign, there’s no question a move like this would come with some scrutiny. But that’s why you have a scouting staff, right?

Believe it or not, Brad Treliving’s already been on the job for 25 days. And still, we wait patiently for the first shoe to drop.

Maybe it’s with the Philadelphia Flyers. Maybe not.
