The Boston Bruins have signed defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk to a one-year contract, TSN’s Chris Johnston reported Saturday afternoon.

Shattenkirk, 34, racked up four goals and 27 points while averaging 19:18 in 75 games with the Anaheim Ducks during the 2022-23 regular season.

The 6-foot defenseman, who shoots right, will earn $1.05 million on his one-year deal with the Bruins. He had previously commanded $3.9 million per season on the three-year contract he signed with the Ducks in 2020.

Per PuckPedia, Shattenkirk’s new deal with the Bruins does not feature any trade or movement protection.

The Colorado Avalanche originally selected Shattenkirk in the first round (No. 14 overall) of the 2007 NHL Draft.

Shattenkirk signed with the Avalanche in 2010 after a successful three-year tenure at Boston University. He made his NHL debut with the Avs during the 2010-11 season.

Midway through his rookie campaign, the Avalanche traded Shattenkirk to the St. Louis Blues as part of a deal to acquire Erik Johnson. Shattenkirk would remain with the Blues until 2017, when he was traded to the Washington Capitals in a deadline deal.

Shattenkirk subsequently made brief stops with the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning, winning the Stanley Cup in 2020, before joining the Ducks as a UFA.

Through 891 career games over 13 NHL seasons with the Avalanche, Blues, Capitals, Rangers, Lightning and Ducks, Shattenkirk has collected 97 goals and 460 points. He’s added eight goals and 47 points in 85 playoff games.

Shattenkirk will now compete for ice time as part of a Bruins defensive group that also includes Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, Brandon Carlo, Matt Grzelcyk, Derek Forbort and Jakub Zboril.

In addition to Shattenkirk, the Bruins also signed forwards Morgan Geekie, Milan Lucic, James van Riemsdyk and Patrick Brown shortly after the UFA period opened on Saturday.
